Assignment 1

Course Outline
Assignment 1:Framing the image
Take at least 20 photos in a space that you are familiar with. The purpose of this project is to transform the everyday things and spaces that you take for granted and perhaps don't even notice. We will try  to see things in a "different light", transforming the everyday into the extraordinary. It is important that you try to transform your subject as much as you can, and try to see as the camera sees, to see photographically. When framing your subject, be aware of the entire frame and not merely the subject ;think about the relationship between foreground and background. Objects and scenes can be transformed using the camera close-up, photographing from a different perspective (higher looking down), using light to dramatize your subject, and using composition to create a stronger image.  Download all your images taken for this project to your computer. Place at least 10 on your blog  with a link from your blog (Call it assignment1). In Lightroom you will convert all your photos to black and white.
Do Not use flash for this assignment.

Set up your blog: go to blogger.com and follow the instructions. Send me your blog address so that I can attach to your name on the right column.

The Camera: In class we will discuss the use of the sony nex-7 and digital cameras in general.

( photographers that dealt with the familiar).Include websites of your research

1. what kind of photographs do they make?
2. What technical considerations do you think they made in creating their work?
3. What were some of their ideas in making the pictures?
Include also, 2 examples each of their work (small images).

Part 2 Select one of your images from the first part of this assignment and edit in Lightroom.Try 4 different versions of the same image, high contrast, tinted etc.  Work on this in class and upload the 4 new variations in addition to the 10 you made in the first part of this assignment.
